You can retrieve your mail from gmail with pop3, but I don't think you can send that way.
You might want to look into one of the domain registrars ... they often provide some basic email service for free or cheap. I use godaddy and they have a basic free email service with domains.
BTW, as an aside, I absolutely love gmail for the midrange.com lists! The threading is awesome, and I understand TBird offers the same thing.
tbird's threading is nice, but not as comprehensive as gmail's. david
