We have a couple of PC servers that we no longer back up to tape, but to an external USB hard drive. W2K Server using Backup Exec. Space on the external drive is not really an issue, backup speed is more important to me. Question: For compressing the data, is it better to a) not compress when formatting the hard drive and use software compression in Backup Exec, or b) format the hard drive as a compressed drive and use no compression in Backup Exec. OTOH, if speed is the issue, am I better off with no compression at all? Anyone studied this? I'm going to look online for some info.
