In general, yes, but by changing the DNS setting you can try a couple of
dozen sites easily and quickly to see if it's working (yahoo, google,
msn, amazon, ibm, etc.).  Another thing is that Windows does some DNS
caching, so after making the change you may wint to do a Start - Run and
enter "ipconfig /flushdns" (OK) to clear the cache before testing.

Oh, you may also want to compare DNS settings on your 98 & XP machines -
they SHOULD be using the same DNS.  On the 98 machine, do a Start - Run
and enter "winipcfg" (OK).  Then pick your ethernet adapter and expand
the details to see the DNS.  On XP, do Start - Run and enter "cmd" (OK)
for a Command (DOS) window.  From there, do IPCONFIG /ALL to see
everything.
