I had the same problem. The simple fix is to go to Windows Explorer, click on Tools, then Folder Options, scroll down to JPE, JPG and JPEG and set the types to whatever program you want these images to display. Something on my system reset the types to nothing. I figured it was one of the new Security updates from Microsoft. It only happened on my 2000 machine and my XP machine was OK.
