Just to clarify, the "selecting text" behavior is normal whenever you single
click in a browser address window.  It would appear that the pointer
switching is causing the single mouse click no matter where it is on the
screen.

I just had a thought.  Maybe I ought to try swapping the mouse with another.
Maybe the mouse itself is doing this.
