Well, in the case of SBC ... they are giving Yahoo a chunk of change to provide mail service to their subscribers.

So, if I were to use my SBC email account, I would access it through Yahoo's web interface ... or I can use pop3.

I don't think Yahoo's normal free accounts can access via anything other then the web interface.
