There's a LOT that can be said about VPN, but he's said pretty much everything useful already.

Beyond that, about all I'd be interested in is whether you have a good reason for VPN. I imagine most reasons are something like "the boss says so".

Actually, I wonder how many of us have good reason for using it? (...besides the one I gave.)

FWIW, my connection is via cable modem, and I am using a GigaFast router.

From the manual: This router supports only PPtP Packet Pass-Through.

Neither L2tP (Layer 2 Tunnel Protocol) nor IPSEC (Internet Protocol
Security) are supported.  The router itself does not have a VPN function.
It allows PPtP Packet Pass-Through.
