It's been my experience that Windows does not tolerate this action
lightly.

I have *NEVER* had it work correctly in the long run.  Too many drivers
are installed by Windows during the install process that cannot be
changed.

My recommendation would be to restore the original mobo (if possible)
backup the critical information, replace the mobo, and reinstall Windows
from scratch.
