Hi Rick,

No specific answers, but some general suggestions. First, just for the
heck of it, try doing Ctrl-Alt-Del and bringing up the Performance window
to check out how much memory and processor is being used. When I got my
first XP machine, the CPU was at 60% most of the time, even when I wasn't
doing anything except watching that window.

Second, check out http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm. Don't be
put off by the name -- I know it sounds weird to recommend someone called
"Black Viper", but I got this tip from Brian Livingston and I've had very
good luck following his suggestions (for one thing, I got the CPU down to
0% with no noticeable ill effects). Be sure to read through all the stuff
pretty carefully -- he lays out a good plan for both understanding what
you're doing and leaving yourself an exit strategy in case you mess up.
For more information on XP processes, you can also check out
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm.

Have fun, and good luck! :-)

PS: I'm curious about those battery questions myself!
