I believe you are correct, Bob. 

Linux is Linux. The only difference is how the companies lay out the file
structure. In this case, it really doesn't matter because for initial setup
they have custom setup screens. Everything else is done via the web
interface. You can log in as root and get a command line, but they have a
different user for logging in that does a very specific function. So the
"distribution" is IPCop.

The current version is based over a very striped down Red Hat 8 I believe.
And I they are going to move to LFS (Linux from Scratch) in the future.

Bottom line is that for most IPCop users, the exact underlying OS doesn't
really matter.  And it is supposed to be a dedicated machine.  You do NOT
want to run your mail server or "other"
things on the IPCop machine.
