Not familiar with that option on Google, so I had to look it up.  Interesting
feature.  Kind of like the SETI thing.  Got a chuckle out of some of the things
in the FAQ on it.

If it was indeed slowing your machine, you should contact Google though.  In
bright green letters was this statement: "The Google Compute feature of the
Google Toolbar shouldn't affect your regular computing activities and you can
easily disable it at any time for any reason."
