Dan,

I have been running VS Code, and yes Code for i, without issue on Ubuntu for
two releases (22.04.x and 24.04.x). I only use LTS releases (something to
think about on the Linux side). My development laptop dual boots with
Windows 10 and Ubuntu 24.04.x with a mapped drive/partition they share for
source code and documents and such. I am able to work on something in one
O/S, save it, reboot to the other O/S, and open it and continue to work with
no issues.

I hope for the same luck for you with Mint.

Steve

Subject: [IBMiOSS] VS Code for i on Linux Mint

As Microsoft has deemed my just-barely-too-old Win10 laptop is unable to
upgrade to Win11, I am preparing to migrate that laptop to Linux Mint. I
see the VS Code download page has downloads for Linux, and it specifically
mentions Ubuntu (for the .deb package). I understand that Mint is a fork of
Ubuntu and, therefore, I suppose the .deb package will install and work fine
on Mint. But I am a total Linux noob, so I don't know if there are
peculiarities that might upend my assumptions. And, even if VS Code
installs and works fine on Mint, is it an automatic given that the Code for
i extensions will as well?
