All quite pertinent questions Heiko. I'm not sure IBM or Perforce have been
as clear as they could be regarding the future of PHP on IBM I, mainly
because the final decisions have not been made and/or announced. Perforce
acquiring Zend (through a couple of other transactions) is excellent for the
Zend product, and the Zend server is still the premier PHP server on IBM I,
but clearly there is a community push for a completely open source PHP on
IBM i as well.
The problem is we don't know. That's because the folks that could tell us
either have not made up their minds on the topic, or are not in a position
to disclose that decision yet. Either way, it leaves questions.

Thanks for this information. Quite interesting. So what's the future of PHP
on the IBM I. Is the coming more on the side of "Free PHP"? Is there already
someone using it in a production environment in combination with Apache as a
webserver?
