You're not imagining it, and you're not alone.
I think it's mainly because people are often terse, especially when
they're trying to write quickly. I am definitely guilty of this
myself.
I try to remind myself that most people are, ultimately, trying to
help and contribute. Having this as a backdrop takes the edge off of
curt-seeming responses.
