Thanks Kevin, I read both the articles and they made sense.

I changed my .profile to only set the PATH.

I installed the idb-connector and itoolkit (is the term locally) with
  npm i idb-connector
  npm i itoolkit
in my project folder.

When I issued
  node http_db2.js
the server started up with no errors.

One last question.  Should I and if so how should I uninstall idb-connector
and itoolkit globally?
