Thru trial and error, I found the difference. The column in question is defined as numeric(10). The value being inserted is:
0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000493.53
Windows correctly inserts 493.52 into the table, while IBMi fails. To further muddy the waters, IBMi accepts the following value for the same column, but the table column contains a 0:
0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000205.38

I can work around this, but the difference is unsettling. I guess it's like Java, "write once, test everywhere".
