I disagree that a PASE shell is any better than Qshell. QP2TERM has
been the traditional advice to get a more "pure" PASE experience, but
as far as I have seen personally, they are essentially the same. Both
have extremely limited usefulness as a console interface, and if SSH
is even an option, then we should not be talking about anything on the
5250.

(And if SSH is not an option, then we really should be doing
everything in our power to make it an option!)

The issue is that a 5250 session is inherently not TTY-like, and
there's no good way to achieve TTY-like behavior via 5250. What's TTY?
Well, I'm using that terminology a little sloppily, but mainly it's a
character-by-character asynchronous terminal interface. In contrast,
5250 is a screen-at-a-time synchronous interface.

For the record, I actually prefer Qshell (slightly) over the QP2*
options. So does the esteemed Scott Klement (who explains the
differences in a very understandable way):
