We've gotten so many requests for COBOL courses in the past couple years that I took two years off system admin. topics to write an ILE COBOL series. There seems to have been a fair number of mainframe shops that downsized to IBM i because they could keep COBOL. I once heard that roughly 5% of IBM i shops are COBOL. I'm guessing that number has gone up as RPG shops leave Power.
There's a huge COBOL consulting firm in the Denver area that is paying 6-figure salaries to a bunch of white-haired dudes to keep working. That could be my retirement hobby, if I gave up the band and shark dives....
