I have an acquaintance in San Antonio who is with a big financial
institution in this area. She let me know today that "Senior Management has
decided to decommission the iSeries and purchase a 3rd party banking
system."
When I asked if she would keep her job, she responded, "Most likely not.
We have a staff of 12 RPG programmers - will attempt to retrain in C#, and
Oracle. :) That is so hard for some 25 + year RPGers. Upper Management
thinks we can cut the programming staff by 75%, as the 3rd party software
will handle ALL of our needs. (have you heard this song before?)
We expect to cut over September 1st 2014."
I opened an account with that institution specifically because they were an
iSeries shop. I will be closing it this weekend.
