drudgereport.com and midrange.com both keep things pretty simple, just leave you alone with what you want to do. I think Google leapfrogged ahead that way, just gave you one simple web page with a lonely search argument bar, fed up the results and on the side gave you some sponsored links that related to the words.

Except now Google is started to game their own system, in part they have to and in part they're using the "have to" to cover for the "want to", but their sophisticated users are savvy to that and would probably gravitate to a better alternative.
