Two weeks ago 8 of my family were traveling across the state, in two cars. I had MyFi (Sprint) with three laptops in one care and another laptop and a note book in the other. As long as we were following each other, not too close, or side by side, we could all connect.

It was a hoot sending emails and IM ing between cars.

Agreed, but that MyFi device now costs you about $50-$60/month for 2 years, the iPad will cost you $15 or $30/month whenever you want it (no contract).
That is all on top of your current phone packages.

I have started to see some smart phones come out that have this built-in. I can't wait to see more come out like this soon.

I've got an iTouch that I love...but I've got Verizon as my carrier,

device. These a little thick than a credit cards connect to the 3G
network and work as a WiFi AP for up to 5 devices at a time.

So, I can have my iTouch connected and my LapTop along with my wife's
LapTop
--- all sharing the same 3G connection.

So you dont have to wait for iPad to have 3G and you aren't forced
into AT&T.
