Mike,

If you are looking at Cognos and BO, you are beyond 'query' packages and
enterprise reporting. For competitors with Cognos and BO that fit the i
better, you should review Qliktech and Silvon.

Thanks Paul. That is what I thought. I am not looking to buy a query package
and have looked at SEQEL and NGS and the one now owned by SPSS but is iSeries
specific. All more affordable than Cognos. I asked because we are looking for
a new HR/Financials system and two vendors that got a lot of oohhh-aaahhs on
"their" reporting tool from the non IT staff in the room used 3rd party apps
(one was Cognos and one was BusinessObjects). The core system didn't get many
ooohh-aaaahhs is was mostly the reporting tool. Just looking for some info for
when we next meet.

More toward the upper end. I've heard of people paying more than $100K, and
that was just for the software. The implementation and training is even
more.

I was just curios on the price range for a tool like Cognos. Is it in the <
$50K range or more like the $100K range

Thanks
