Try ebay for a used 12" iBook. Not much more than a mac mini, but what a way to start your mac career...er... play! And, you can carry it almost everywhere. While it is slower than the current macBooks, you will quickly become the convert.

Yeehah, Trevor!  You are quite the multimedia maven!

I've been thinking about getting a Mac solely for the multimedia side of
things.  And thinking, and thinking.  Then I think about things like food
and mortgage, but nowadays that's getting to be less of an issue with the
price of a Mac mini.
