If it's unsolicited bulk or commercial email, it's spam. Period. It's about
consent, not content. Spam for the noblest cause, or sent with the best of
intentions, is still spam. If you want advertising from Joe Pluta's company,
then you can request it.

SpamAssassin still catches quite a bit of spam. Yes, a tiny bit still leaks
through, but then I'm using an old version of SA, too.
