I'm using the ibmi mcp server running on the i (exposing it to my local desktop cl**de).
With MCP starts to be useful on live day by day data.
I put it in readonly to avoid issues, but I've left exposed the integrated possibility to run arbitrary SQL queries.
Given that a lot of infos can be retrieved via SQL, and the good online IBM documentation, the LLM can prove pretty useful.
IBMi as implemented in many shops can be an ideal platform for AI (business sources open, documented field, central connected ERP data, high introspection...).
Actually the implementation is internal and just used by our tech office.
Used today to query for example "gimme a exp smoothing picking alpha by best practice according to online literature last 20 weeks of revenue by business units marking special days like local or worldwide holidays " and it happily hammered the db for data.
Or using the same system : "based on file X and sources prefixed Y give me who change field K, analyze potential side effects in first level sub called programs".
Or: "read a mapping table in this PDF and produce a RPG proc coding such a date based on such code table"...
just to give a couple of example
ciao!

I'm interested in how different IBM i shops are using AI - particularly in
the area of system administration.
How is your company using AI on IBM i?
Do you have customers using AI? What are they doing with it?
Anyone exposing their IBM i database to an AI agent?
Anyone using the MCP server? It what manner is it being used?
Thanks,
