With newer versions of SQL you could use either the QCMDEXC stored
procedure or the QCMDEXC function. Before IBM came out with them some of
us rolled our own.

LOCK TABLE [tablename] IN EXCLUSIVE MODE

However, I was unable to find out how to remove this lock from within SQL.
There is no UNLOCK TABLE SQL command.
