Oh, and I am seeing the same 15-ish second response times you were and I have Gigabit internet. So it wasn't just you.

If you have RDI you will see that it seems to work quite fast since it uses pre-established connections.

Simple IFS file uploads with SSH or FileZilla are also fast.

Pretty sure it's mainly the overhead of VS Code running a bunch of SSH threads on a low end CPU that's killing it for you.

Might be worth looking into the IBM Cloud Power Virtual Servers. Their minimum is .25 core which will probably perform a bit better. Although it?s about $380-500 per month range.
