I have found that since the SQL errors issued by VB or VBA (or any ODBC connection) are vague and mostly useless.
What I do is to run the SQL statement using VB or the ACS Run SQL Scripts on my laptop and simultaneously use WORKOBJLCK on my user profile on the system and review the messages found in the job log of the QZDASONIT or QRWTSRVR jobs that are running behind the scenes to implement the SQL calls. If it is still active you can use CHGJOB and change the logging level of those jobs and run the SQL again to get more detailed information.

In my research I found this link,

System value QQRYTIMLMT is *NOMAX. Following the instructions in the itjungle link, I went to ODBC Data Source Configuration.
I checked every Data Source, there were four, only one allowed "Configure," the others it was greyed out.
That one, I saw and unclicked "Enable Query Timeout" and clicked ok.
I'm still getting the error. I'm not sure how to fix this time out issue.
Thanks,
Charles Versfelt
