Hello David,

Am 25.12.2025 um 15:45 schrieb David C. Shea <dshea@xxxxxxxxxxxx>:

I was able to get WOL to work on my power 5 520 v7r1 by connecting my laptop to the com port db9 male and using a null modem cable and Putty.

And what exactly did you do then?

It doesn't look like I have the same connection on the 170.

Anyone know if the 170 can do WOL and if so how to enable it?

The 520 is a newer generation hardware, compared to the 170. I'm pretty sure it can't do WoL. But there is a thing called Remote IPL, a serial Modem triggered power-on. It might be possible that even just activating the Ring Indicator Line at the serial port might be sufficient. Further research necessary.

:wq! PoC
