Hello,

I'm seeking information about what I guess is called "Remote IPL", the Modem triggered power on of a machine. Not sure if the required components have changed since LPARs became a thing. So I'm specifically asking about pre Power5 machines.

I ran pdfgrep over my documents collection with no clear instructions how to set this up. The little available hints say, that the IPL is triggered by the modem's Ring Indicator line, but one must wait for the machine to hang up the line for the IPL to continue.

That raises some questions.

Must I use another modem and maybe Client Access to start the remote IPL? Is there any data communication happening over the established modem-2-modem connection? Or is it sufficient to dial into the remote machine's modem with just a telephone and wait till the remote machine actually hangs up the line?

Thanks!

:wq! PoC
