I looked up the details for anyone curious.

Power 6 last OS release supported is 7.2. Standard EOS on 7.2 was 04/30/21.
Extended OS support is still available but I'm guessing a hobbyist can't
afford it.
Power 8 last OS release supported is 7.4. Standard EOS on 7.4 is 09/30/26.
Extended OS support will be available but details have not been announced.

The Power 6 has 6.1 installed. The Power 8 has 7.3. Neither had been IPL'd
for more than 5 years.
