Have you looked at 3rd party solutions?

We use Qlik (formerly Attunity) and replicate about 80% of our databases to SQL server.  Our applications are a mix of our core Iseries application and SQL based add on apps.

Once the database is synced, it keeps it updated (using Journals).

Right now, the process is a refresh of the 6 million rows on SQL server. In reality we only need the newest rows since the last run.
