Totally unrelated, but this jogged my memory...

Back in the mid-80's I worked for a couple of years on the S/36 and it seems that there was a joker at IBM Rochester who worked on SSP, and when certain later models of the 5360 were shut down, the word "DEAD" would briefly appear on the LCD screen on the system unit before it powered off.
