As it turns out,

(1) Even though I have two different form factors on the drives in the "slim" 170, everything identifies as a 6713/050 in SST.

(2) I've brought up our "fat" 170, and all of its drives identify in SST as 6713/050s, too.

(3) That includes one drive, in slot F12 of the "fat" 170, that shows up in SST as non-configured, and has a day-glo pink Post-It attached to it, designating it as "Spare." And it appears to be the same form-factor as the drive that's corrupted in the "slim" 170.

(4) There's also a drive in slot F14 of the "fat" 170, that doesn't show up at all in SST. The green LED next to it, however, is on. What's up with that?

In future discussion of this, I think I'm just going to call everything by its system name: the "slim" 170, on V4R4, is "MERCURY"; the "fat" 170, on V5R2 (but with no development tools whatsoever), is "MARS."

And I think I'm going to PWRDWNSYS for the night on both MERCURY and MARS, since I'll need both of them dormant anyway, in order to insert the spare into MERCURY.

BTW, any chance anybody knows anything about a very old Affirmative YEStation? The console terminal on MARS is an old Twinax Yestation, and it is continuously toggling between its two sessions at a rate of about 1 Hz.
