Most times when we "shared" stuff (or tried to) with the manframe boys, it didn't end well.

I guess the niche IBM i and predecessors are in, comes in part from this perceived competition within IBM. As in "AS/400 will make us sell less mainframes". Which would explain a lot of what IBM did not to promote the platform.
