5250 data stream will never go away for several reasons. Development of new 5250 interfaces, sure they will be depleted at best.

Nothing is stopping you from creating and using 5250 panels, you just need to code it like you do RPG, in an editor.

I see complaints that VS code has not stepped up to replace SDA, then since there are really smart folks that read this, why not build one, it’s open source.

IBM chooses to relegate SDA to the dust bin of twinax, SNA communications, etc because it makes sense.

Enough of this, it’s a dead horse, stop trying to ride it. Get your upgrade plans in place, you’ve got lots of time.

We've Modernized our screens with the Presto Add-on. No green screen to
end uses, but it does require the 5250 data stream. If you want to
push your remaining dedicated base off a platform IBM, eliminate 5250.
