Hi Nils,

thanks for commenting.

What you described is what my team is doing in the IceCap project with a 7ms response time ( faster that ACS)

Yes - I already had a look at IceBreak and IceCap.

However we are combining the dds and the “live” 5250 stream to a JSON structure

My idea is to keep the template engine flexible - maybe only adding a default one like "apug" (pugjs) or something easier.

Your issue here is not the ui. The issue is that traditional RPG display file handling it turns the inside out of the logic compared to REST that is
your goal

Yes - I already identified that as the maybe biggest problem.

We have made a runtime environment for that in Icecap. And I will share with you, that- for all the reasons that REST is promising- it is 90
degrees on a 5250.

My idea was maybe having a IBM i job per session - that is "DSPW" during the EXFMT statement. But that sounds easier as it might be.

Having said that. The RPG logic is good and solid. But you have to turn it inside out.

Exactly

Yes - icecap is a commercial product, however I can and will help you- with
the open source tooling we have made in this space to accomplish your
ideas.

Thanks in advance.

As I wrote in my answer to Jon - I will post something in the next 1 or 2 weeks.

Kind regards,
Daniel
