With three OS choices for the POWER platform, (IBM i , AIX, and Linux) how were the engineers supposed to indicate the difference between hardware issues and OS issues?

Yes the physical light is separated from the OS logical one.   Usually different reasons for being on.   

As to the name, it’s to get your attention is it not?
