Although every attempt is always made to allow _our_ programs to continue to run from release to release, utilities and other IBM software often require tweaks for new releases. And tweaks mean testing - in multiple languages and CCSIDs. Since IBM are going to be adding the designer to Code for i I'm guessing that the cost of that can no longer be justified.
