I generally take the Linux approach here, presuming the OEM vendor does not specify a location.

So /opt/appname or maybe /usr/local.

In this case /opt is not optical rather optional.

Javier,

I have quite a few directories on the root... This includes directories I've created as well as vendor software.

I'm not sure there's a recommendation other than not sharing the root.

My 2 cents..

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Recommended directory to install third party software

Hi Guys,

What is IBM's recommended IFS directory for installing third-party software?

I usually install them in the root directory (/package) or in /home, but I
don't think it is the most appropriate.

I would like to put some order in my directory tree.

Best regards
