Vern,
I'd read more in that same reference. It talks about how to make the
columns so they cannot be updated. See these following two statements:

create view rob.iimv01
as select iprod, iid, idesc
from rob.iim
where iid = 'IM';

*-- DSPFD ROB/IIMV01*
*-- Allow read operation . . . . . . . . . . . : Yes *
*-- Allow write operation . . . . . . . . . . . : Yes *
*-- Allow update operation . . . . . . . . . . : ALWUPD *YES *
*-- Allow delete operation . . . . . . . . . . : ALWDLT *YES *
create view rob.iimv02
as select
*char*(iprod) as iprod,
*char*(iid) as iid,
*char*(idesc) as idesc
from rob.iim
where iid = 'IM'
;

*-- DSPFD ROB/IIMV02*
*-- Allow read operation . . . . . . . . . . . : Yes *
*-- Allow write operation . . . . . . . . . . . : No *
*-- Allow update operation . . . . . . . . . . : ALWUPD *NO *
*-- Allow delete operation . . . . . . . . . . : ALWDLT *YES*

Hi Fulvio

In the 7.4 SQL Reference I found this statement - it seems there is a way.

Read-only views: The addition of an INSTEAD OF trigger for a view
affects the read-only characteristic
of the view. If a read-only view has a dependency relationship with an
INSTEAD OF trigger, the type of
operation that is defined for the INSTEAD OF trigger defines whether the
view is deletable, insertable, or
updatable.

I did not look up anything about INSTEAD OF triggers, that should also
be in the SQL Reference.

I hope this helps.

*Regards*
