Well - I'm hoping for the extension of

SELECT ... FROM OLD|NEW|FINAL TABLE

for UPDATE and DELETE ... and hopefully also MERGE.

DB2 13 for z/OS already has this feature for all data modification statements incl. MERGE.

DB2 12.1.1 LUW now has at least INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE - but (if I have seen this correctly) not MERGE

DB2 for i (as of 7.5) has that feature only for INSERT.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Hi Jim

I've heard nothing specific. I just listened to Steve Will's guided tour, a 2025 preview, he said several things about AI and, IIRC, about using it in OS and other areas. Now I very likely was distracted, so one should go check it out.

So a new version of DB/2 (12.1.1) has been announced for the other worlds. Frankly much of what’s in there we already have in IBM i DB/2, but some we don’t. Ie: using an AI engine in the query optimization.

Anyone know when we see that, or is it even needed ?
