Scott has a library SOCKTUT which provides all the tools to build a
website check in rpg.
There was a specific program written by Gerald kern I believe that did
this.
I modified that for our use and it has worked well for years and I have
built the code to restart the web server if there is an error.
SQL is most likely the way to go but I like the rpg solution.

Subject: Detecting an unresponsive Tomcat server on a Midrange box. Any
ideas?
We have this one case, out of all the Midrange Tomcat installations we
manage, in which the server becomes unresponsive, sometimes every other
month, sometimes every other week, sometimes every other day, and in any
event requiring a forced shutdown and a restart.
And somebody suggested that if we could detect the problem, we could
automate that.
But I have no idea how we'd be able to detect it.
Anybody have any ideas?
