Hi Bob,
Full disclosure, we have a solution, Profound AI, that is built specifically for integrating AI assistants into business applications. The starter edition is free, so feel free to kick the tires.
That said, we have customers experimenting with exactly what you are asking. Here are just a few things that I have seen and discussed with customers.
*
AI Assisted Search - A customer has a "notes" field in their application that is completely free form for their users to put anything they want. They have struggled with search on this data due to varying abbreviations and shorthand different users use. By creating an AI assistant and giving it access to this data, end users are able to find the information they need because the LLM can infer the meaning of various abbreviations and find the desired data.
*
Ad-hoc Data Analysis - Customers' users are using AI assistants to ask questions about their data. The assistants analyze the data that they have been given permission to see and return insights, charts, tables, etc. Users are able to use natural language to get answers about their data without needing to involve IT for custom reports or queries.
*
Document Summarization - Many customers have important data points in various types of documents in addition to their database. AI agents can index, summarize, and leverage this unstructured data alongside more structured data to provide answers and insights to users. Some common uses have been HR, catalogue data, application documentation, and SOP documents. I have one customer exploring using an AI agent to help prevent their call center employees from breaking laws that vary from state to state. They have the appropriate legal documents loaded into the assistant, and the assistant makes recommendations based on the location of the client record pulled up on the screen.
*
Specialized Application Assistants - Agents with access to historical data, APIs, and program/procedure calls, can be added to specific ERP screens to assist users. Imagine a sales representative pulling up an order entry screen and being able to ask the AI assistant for recommended products or promotions that will appeal to that customer based on that customer's purchase history or trends that it finds among all customers.
I hope these examples help get the creative juices flowing. If you would like to chat more, feel free to contact me off list.

Subject: How have you used AI outside of programming?
Caution: This email originated from an external source. Please do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe.
We all know that AI chatbots like ChatGPT or CoPilot can be somewhat useful in helping us write code, but I'm curious as to what companies have done with these things to help their users. Have you plugged in some AI features into your ERP systems? Are some of the major ERP provides baking AI into their newest versions? Like what features? We are stuck on JD Edwards World and will be for the foreseeable future so I'm looking for ideas to maybe improve upon what we are using here.
As an aside, I'm also curious how your users are utilizing these tools in their jobs outside of the ERP systems? I see a lot of promise for assisted coding, creating digital art, summarizing YouTube videos, and analyzing data to a certain degree. But what more useful things can these things do that we can help our users utilize them to their full potential?
Thanks
