You don't need the server component. Smbclient works standalone without SAMBA or QNTC/NetServer.

Better yet solution would be to send files via SFTP or SCP to remote servers.

And kill any NetBios running on the box.

You don't need to configure the server, but can use the smbclient app to send/receive files from IBM i to other Netbios servers without exposing shares.

Might be worth checking out if you're trying to revamp your file transfer processes.
