Z is unlikely to host i. If this capability were announced, it would stun
the IBM customer world and we'd have something to talk about. But there's
way too much money in mainframe license fees and IBM doesn't want to put
that revenue at risk.

After all these years, one might wonder why the Z customer set hasn't
pressured IBM into releasing this capability. The issue might be IBM's
inability to find developers (although you'd think they'd hire a few
graduating classes in India).

My uninformed guess is that IBM's strategic goal is a cloud OS that runs
all workloads. If such an OS is MVS-based, an i-on-Z capability sooner
rather than later might fit neatly with IBM's long-term vision. Z is
probably the right hardware for i clouds.

I have no insider knowledge of this topic but I would be extremely
surprised if a proof-of-concept "i-on-Z" emulation capability doesn't exist
in some IBM lab somewhere. But it's probably buried deep, right next to
the System i life expectancy spreadsheet. "Stradlin", as in Izzy Stradlin,
would be an interesting project name (better than "Silverlake", for crying
out loud). "i-on-Z": "Izzy"? Any takers?

I will show myself out.

I no longer know much about Z, however, did IBM potentially make it
capable of hosting IBMi like Z does most everything else

Not that I'm aware of.
