I don't know your exact usecase, but in most cases language serves are the
way to go. However, You can also try the Xtext powered by the
eclipse foundation, that I have provided:

Eclipse xtext official link:
https://eclipse.dev/Xtext/community.html

The source from that link is here:
https://github.com/NielsLiisberg/RPG-lexer

If your needs are based on textmate...
https://macromates.com/manual/en/language_grammars

.. Then you can use my sublime edit implementation:
https://github.com/NielsLiisberg/RPG-for-SublimeText

Note - I also went to VSCode and migrated my textmate / sublime to VSCode.
perhaps your will also find this useful:

At Least it will give you some inspiration

I am curious if there are any language definitions out there for RPG,
CL,
etc for the IBM i. JSON objects that can be used in editors, etc.

Example for one for JSON:

I'm sure there are some built for VSC, etc.. but digging to find them
is
proving to be a challenge.

I know you asked specifically about a web plugin, so this is more for
the archives. Liam posted a link to a Github repo by barrettotte that
has syntax highlighting for VS Code
