There's also this service

SELECT * FROM TABLE(SYSTOOLS.SPOOLED_FILE_DATA(
JOB_NAME *=>*'609305/ROB/ROBS1',
SPOOLED_FILE_NAME *=>*'QPSUPRTF'))
ORDER BY ORDINAL_POSITION;

That's a source listing. To remove headers you might want:

SELECT * FROM TABLE(SYSTOOLS.SPOOLED_FILE_DATA(
JOB_NAME *=>*'609305/ROB/ROBS1',
SPOOLED_FILE_NAME *=>*'QPSUPRTF'))
where *substr*(spooled_data, *3*, *7*) not in(
'5770WDS', 'SOURCE ', 'MEMBER ', 'SEQNBR*')
ORDER BY ORDINAL_POSITION

Any somewhat current version of IBM i can load the free 5770-TS1 IBM

Then it becomes a simple matter to convert a spool file to a PDF.
One way is to OVRPRTF prior to it printing with something like
OVRPRTF FILE(QP1ARCY) DEVTYPE(*AFPDS) TOSTMF(&QP1ARCY) WSCST(*PDF)

Another way is for the user to use iACS to find their spool files and then
Edit, Preferences and select PDF and then click on that spool file and
download it.

Is there an easy way (given only terminal and FTP access to the system)
to download the contents of a spool file in a form that desktop boxes
can deal with? Something that can then be converted into, say, a
spreadsheet?

At over 2k pages, this report is not something any sane person would
send to a printer (in my mind's eye, I see a 1403 line printer chewing
through half a box of greenbar). And I'd probably die of old age trying
to copy and paste the whole thing out of a terminal session.
