In general I encourage everyone to turn Allow Console Takeover on. And, if
you're also using a HMC to also always use a shared console and never a
dedicated console. Both eliminate the worry of a session dropping right
while you are in the middle of a long running process (system save,
upgrade, initializing disks, etc). My home internet is extremely
unreliable and never having to worry about a console session is great.
About the only drawback is that when you use Allow Console Takeover you
have to enter in a sst userid and password. To me, that's no big deal.
And if you have an operator it's easy to create a sst userid for the sole
purpose of using console takeover. However I've heard that some operators
just freak out their minds if you change their routine in the slightest way.
