You can mark as many drives as you'd like to be hot spares. Then start RAID with hot spare. Then when you are done, just stop the drive or dives from being a hot spare. Now it's an unused drive again.

Just had a second look: stopping disk related things on V7R2 must be done from DST. (Exception: Removing a disk from an ASP.) Since there's scheduled work to be committed in the DC on Saturday anyways, I refrain from further experiments.
